LEFTOVER CUTIES KNIBB-LE ME IN!

The sultry sounds of Leftover Cuties made me stop in my tracks. The beautiful melody was filling the streets as the band seduced the crowd from the front porch of 1524. As I stopped, the wide platform like front steps of this Craftsman Style bungalow drew me closer to the music. I peeked my head inside. WOW, WOW, WOW! I was amazed! I had no idea what I was walking into, but I am so glad I did. I have been seeing this KNIBB sign as I drive/ride down Abbot Kinney and everytime I think to myself, how clever is that. Ok, so it all came together...KNIBB Design, owned by Landscape designer Sean Knibb, who is known to " take an unconventional approach to conventional design as he transforms ordinary outdoor spaces into magical retreats from everyday life" has taken over the space next door and done exactly that. 1524 is a beautifully curated space featuring Knibb's indoor-outdoor furniture, an eco-friendly collection of tables and benches made of wood salvaged from construction tear-downs around Los Angeles. The colors so bold, the wood so raw, the design so rough but refined. This gallery has been deconstructed, the rafters revealed, the trim stripped to it's purest state, the collection of light fixtures, designed by Peter Carlson, for CL Sterling, sparkle like a diamond in the sky, and the colors are straight from a candy shop. The prices are fairly reasonable and the design is outstanding. A must have!






Knibbs aesthetic transcends through the space and out the back door to a gorgeous backyard garden where flames dance around and and guests gather, in what feels like an old barn. I seriously did not want to leave. The only thing that got me out of this space was the Leftover Cuties were still playing on the front porch:-)


You must check out Leftover Cutie's website, it's new and it is so, so adorable. Seriously I think you'll actually start blowing at the screen, it's that great!! The sound is seductive so be prepared.

TUMBLEWEED AND DANDELION

If you want the look of Pippa and Richards' Hawaiian dream home you have to check out Tumbleweed and Dandelion in Venice, CA. They have a beautiful showroom on Abbot Kinney that makes you feel at home. You won't want to leave! I've put together a spread of some of my favorite pieces.

I was just in their shop the other day and it's not just about the furniture, but their candles are delicious! Beach Days and Tuberose are perfect for the weekend. Light the candle, open up the windows, make a lovely brunch, maybe a mimosa, and then sit down and curl up against one of their super comfy burlap down filled pillows with a book. Sounds like my kind of day! Tumbleweed and Dandelion also offers painting services. Now you don't have to wait years to have that get that perfect weathered look. They specialize in layered patinas and aged finishes as well as hand painted murals, lettering and decorative patterns.

STILL IN LOVE!

I picked up the last issue of Domino Magazine from my piles of magazines and fell in love all over again. This magazine is so jam packed with amazing interiors, stories, and products that I can look through these over and over again and find new inspiration each time. I could not get over the spread "Live the Dream" about Pippa (love that name) and Richard Imrie's Hawaiian Vacation home built on a former pineapple plantation...awww! Richard built this home from the ground up and gave it that worn-in cottage feel.


The pine planks are weathered to perfection, the furnishings... slipcovered and all about comfort, well worn pine tables, industrial light fixtures integrated perfectly, and my favorite element is the turqouise and yellow window frames, and louvered doors throughout.


The bedrooms have that summer camp slumber party feel that in it's own gives this home such an inviting energy. I want to be here with a ton of books, my yoga mat, some canvases and a sketchbook and I would be living my dream! Check out more of Ken Kochey photography...so natural and happy. AMAZING FINDS @ OFFICE MOVING SALE

The lease is up and the funky finds in this creative office must go. Most of them are brand new and have never been used, while others are worn in vintage pieces with that loved a lot character. We are selling real cool artwork from a local artist in Atwater Village, handmade pottery from Homegrown, vintage Brazilian rosewood chairs, a vintage midcentury desk, some simple pieces from IKEA, desk chairs, gorgeous steel desk from Shelter, adorable swivel chair, and some cute vintage finds. A LITTLE COMIC RELIEF!

Oh my god, how fabulous are these concept renderings! I'm tired of renderings that look so real you can't decide if it's an actual thing or not. I know they are perfect for an end product, but how funky and sexy are these? Seriously my fiance just came in and peeked over my shoulder and asked, "Is that porn?" These are concept renderings for the William Beaver house...don't know if the sexy renderings have anything to do with the name, but whatever:-) The William Beaver House is designed by Hotelier Andres Balazs, who New York magazine calls, "a tastemaker for the tastemakers." Not your Standard Sunset

"Sunset Beach is the perfect escape...simple, unspoilted, and unpretentious."-Hip Hotels

This "hip" hotel is one of hotelier Andre Balazs Properties who also was the mastermind behind the "not so standard" Standard Hotels. He transformed this old motel into this simple but chic hotel. It is located on Crescent Beach on the south end of Long Island and offers an amazing getaway from the city. Sunset Beach is a young hip hotel with sunsets so beautiful some say they look like special effects. The restaurant is well known for their French fare and I hear they have some great DJ's that draw in quite the crowd. This isn't a new hotel, but the design is fresh and I love the splashes of color and the bold stripes used throughout. I just feel relaxed looking at the pictures...I'd love a getaway to Sunset Beach.

OH...TO BE A FARMER;-)

As I've mentioned in my previous posts, I took a trip back to Iowa this past weekend. It was such a fresh breath of air and I left feeling completely rejuvenated. A highlight of my trip was visiting my Grandpa's farm in Garden Grove, IA (pop. 250). He lives in an underground home that looks almost exactly like this home in Big Sur designed by Mickey Muennig Architects ... well from the exterior and minus the ocean view. I absolutely love this home! Check out the outdoor shower and that fireplace is amazing! These are pictures of the Big Sur home I pulled from Trendir.



Heres a link to the google map of my grandpa's home. I told him I have dreams to renovate the interior of his space into something gorgeous and modern and one day it could be my country home. This Big Sur home is exactly what I had in mind. My grandpa designed and built his home with his own two hands back in 1970. They only installed a furnace a few years ago and prior to that all their heat came from the wood-burning stove. They had no need for air conditioning and water comes from the well. To make his home even more amazing they have just planted organic gardens as well as apple, plum, cherry, and peach trees on the roof, and not to mention currants. In their garden they have blueberries, all types of lettuce, peppers, black tomatoes, carrots, beets, oh my, and the list goes on. I'm tempted to move back to Iowa and become a farmer or maybe open a restaurant and have my gramps bring me fresh organic ingredients daily. I would also love to set up shop at the Des Moines Farmer's Market. Who knows, but the ideas are endless. Not to mention he's about ready to tear down an old milking barn as well as an amazing barn right next to it. I can't even begin to tell you about all the good salvage items I found inside. That's another day...maybe tomorrow I'll get all the pics off my camera:-) I'm also going to post some pictures of his home soon, I promise. But for now I hope you enjoyed this amazing home they are calling innovative, and I keep thinking my grandpa did this 40 years ago! Can you tell he's a huge inspiration to me:-)

While searching on GNR8 I fell in love with AQHayon bathtub by Jamie Hayon! It's a little pricey @ $7500.00, but it got my wheels turning thinking you could probably custom make a tub deck like this for a standard undermount tub. Hmmm...the tub and legs might not be as sleek & pretty, but I'm sure you could create this look for less. Now that's a challenge.
