PRODUCT DESIGN AT IT'S BEST

I have always been fascinated with product design and Droog continues to push the envelope. I can't wait until my next trip to New York when I can check out their showroom which opened in February 2009. Here's a blurb from the press release "Droog partnered with Dutch designers Studio Makkink & Bey to conceptualize an interior that breaks the codes of store design. The studio took a store of which all parts could be taken home and pushed the brief one step further by blending objects, store fittings and architecture."


The knotted chair is composed of thread knotted into the shape of a chair and then placed in epoxy and resin to keep it's shape.

The sticky lamp is not only rad, but it is cheap. For only $47.00 you too can own a sticky lamp:-)
This Wien Chair designed by LucidiPevere for Calligaris redefines the Viennese Cafe Chair. I'm usually not a huge fan of Calligaris furniture, but I love this chair. LucidiPevere also designs for Kristalia which explains why I love this chair. He designed this Plana Chair for Kristalia. To die for!


The talent over at Lagranja Design amazes me! I just love the theory behind their design..."We learn by doing, listening to both instinct and reason. The work of Scott Waterman is stunning. I feel blessed that he contacted me because what a beautiful match he makes . His work makes me giggle with glee and feel giddy like a child. The colors, the compositions, the detail, the whimsy, the edginess, what more could I want. He lives in LA and I can't wait to go stop by his studio! FURNITURE HOUSE LA

Just got word today that Furniture House LA is having a huge sale! They are offering 50% off everything in the store. I stopped in last year on a cold rainy day at about 2:50. Was out of there by 3:00, just as my car was about to get towed, called in my order of 2 amazing pieces for the Farmers Daughter Hotel, and had them delivered the next day first thing in the morning. Wonderful showroom, great selection, and fabulous service:-) Definitely check out this sale!

These new Natur-Kick foosball tables designed by Id-entity have me ready to play. I can totally see these in a swanky new bar or hotel. I'll definitely keep them in mind for future projects!

ARTEK'S ART

Artek was founded by Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl in 1935. WHERE DO I GET THIS CHAIR??

I love this room and the wonderful yard. That gray chair is gorgeous. Do you see that webbing detail on the back? How fabulous is that?!

PURE H.O.M.E.

I found this beautiful images from a spread over @ H.O.M.E. I cannot read the article, but the images say alot! The white floors and walls with the rustic wood ceiling create such a soothing feel. I love the mix of furnishings and chairs. The island detail and positioning is a great use of space. I can just hear that piano playing as the owners gently float through their space. Beautiful!

NoHo MODERN LUST

NoHo Modern just recently opened a new 6000 square foot gallery in Hollywood and I am dying to check it out. It is open by appointment only. I met the owner Thomas last month at the LA Antique Show and he couldn't of been nicer. I just checked out some their inventory...

I would be so inspired to sit down and write and this Craftsman Roll Top Walnut Desk. A true piece of art. How gorgeous and sculptural is this Leather and Heavily Patinated Rocking Chair?
I could totally curl up with a book in this Aged Green Leather and Mohair Scandanavian Sofa

Hollywood Hills Mid Century Modern Perfection!

I am featuring work from Carlos Posada, a former architect at Gensler, who did a fabulous job with his Hollywood Hills home. I worked with Carlos to design his wonderful kitchen and bathrooms and he did a fabulous job with the interiors! I'm dying over the Knoll chairs and the carerra top on the dining table.


We used Scavolini for the kitchen cabinets in a dark oak laminate, and glossy white laminate for the uppers, glass backsplash, and Corian countertops with integrated sink.

For the baths we went with Idea Group. We used a cappucino laquer cabinets in the master bathroom, egg shaped vessel sinks (stunning!) and a Philipe Stark bathtub. Throughout the house he has poured terazzo flooring which even extends into the showers, WOW! And the view...words can't even describe it!

Speaking of Heath Ceramics

I mentioned in the previous post the profound respect I have for Heath Ceramics, one of the only original mid century potteries still in existence and still respecting the original craft of founder Edith Heath. I am constantly finding vintage Heath ashtrays at places such as Pico Modern and Poolside and am always looking for an excuse to buy them.I went to the Heath opening in Los Angeles, back in December, again found myself looking for an excuse to buy everything in their amazing new showroom. Here we go...here's my excuse...Heath is having a open studio and sale at their Sausilito location this weekend May 8-10. They are offering samples for $1.00 and tours and workshops, such as a glazing studio, all day long. I missed the Los Angeles event, so if anyone can make it to the Sausilito location please jump on it!








Heath Ceramics paired up with potter and artist Adam Silverman of Atwater Pottery and opened up their Los Angeles store designed by Commune Design. Heath has that raw feel of an original artist and pottery studio and each of the artists and salespeople float around as if they are high on life and ceramics. I don't know, but I think the shear simplicity of the Heath Studio would have me floating on air as well. A quote directly from their site "In a nutshell, we're continuing our designer/maker tradition as we grow our community of craft, design and object enthusiasts."

This is the last week to view the Esque show that has been going on at Heath Los Angeles since April 11th. This show features the glassworks of Portland based design team Andi Kovel and Justin Parker of Esque Studio. They have been praised for their clean energy efforts and use of re-purposed material. This praise has got them listed as one of the "Design 100" in Time magazines list of most influential designers. The show will continue until May 10th.
