A. Kinney Court is Quite a Spectacle!

Oh how I love Venice and all it's funky ways! That's why I was super excited when I had the chance to write about this fabulous new boutique for Design Milk!
One of the newest additions to the ever-changing Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA, is A. Kinney Court, “a concept fashion boutique gallery” opened by Garrett Leight, a native of Venice, and the son of the Oliver Peoples eyewear founder Larry Leight. When in Venice you cannot help but be inspired by the surf, sand, and skate culture. Ilan Dei Studio, located just blocks from the shop, no doubt tapped into these sources of inspiration for this project as well as taking inspiration from the Eames bent plywood processes and skateboard construction. Ilan Dei Studio not only designed, but fabricated and constructed this energetic interior.
The display walls remind me of the view down into the deep bowls of the new Venice Skate Park.

Le Vigne

Madlab + Spurse turn one person's trash into another one's treasures in this creation of Le Vigne, a wine shop on New York's Greenwich Ave. Check out my post on Design Milk for the entire story. That chair on the side of the road will never look the same again!

FASHION AND DESIGN TELL THE STORY

Last year I fell in love with the photography and fashion from fashion designer Bea Szenfeld and her fashion team. The colors and compositions create such a powerful mood while mainting that calmness and refined boldness that is so hard to achieve. My client's sense of style is always a huge inspiration for their interiors. If I was to design an interior for Bea Szenfeld's Autumn Winter 08/09 fashion line it would look like these gorgeous interiors from Studio Isle taken by photographer Lisa Cohen. I'm going to let the pictures tell the rest of the story and let them take you on an adventure of your own.

I've been obsessed with this brass pendant light (model Bumling, by Anders Pehrson for Atelje Lyktan of Sweden). I discovered it at the Floor-Model warehouse as I was shopping for another project in Spring of 2008. David pulled it off the top shelf of the warehouse for me and I fell in love. I didn't ever end up using it, but it looks absolutely gorgeous in this kitchen...especially with the brass hardware!
