Go Ahead, Make My Day!

There's not much to say, but little lady you made my day. All I needed was a smile and a giggle and you brought both those to me...served up on a concrete platter!

My Photos on Tumblr

I have a great camera that I don't use or know how to use nearly as much or as good as I should. I started a little series earlier in the year, well at least I have a dusty folder on my computer, called Sunday Morning Walks. So rather than letting these photos collect even more dust in my folders I decided to start posting them on my Tumblr site, which had also been collecting loads of dust. Hopefully this will also inspire me to get out and photograph more and maybe one day I can stop saying, "I have a camera, but I really suck at using it!" Venice Beach is such a colorful, quirky, and loud place, but as I walk around with my headphones snapping shots in black and white it feels very serene to me. Walk out my front door with me...

You can keep up on life through my lens over on Tumblr.

I came across the Delfin + Postigo house over at Yatzer and am just amazed by it! When designing my goal is to "tell the story of each client through design". This home is the perfect example. It is so honest and true. Some may find this home offensive, but it truly captures the spirit and the character of the owners and I love that!
"Everything that these words entail, describe and symbolize is the essence of this residence in Madrid were the Spanish duo, fashion designer David Delfin and photographer Gorka Postigo reside. The marriage of these two individuals under one roof is the epitome of sexual elegance. David Delfin is famous for designing garments which extenuate the body giving femininity and sex -appeal for his fashion brand davidelfin. Gorka Postigo is an architect (AKAstudio) turned photographer whose work is expressed through the exploration of nudity and emotions through the human existence." -Yatzer

Dreams and Visions

The colors and the compositions of the photography of Tricia McKellar will take you to a place far away! They are soft and soothing and full of fairy tales, but still remaining simple in composition and complex in nature. Her photography process is all about letting go of preconceptions and letting the moment alter and arrange her. You can check out all her lovely work at her Etsy shop.

Glimpse (Weeping Apricot 3486)
My heart skips a beat as I look at this photograph!

One
This work was inspired by the yearning of flight and wander in the slowness of summertime. He totally looks like he's pondering "where to go, where to go?"

Such a beautiful way to capture and interpret the way that colors glow in the summertime.
Summer (Birds in Flight)

Beginning
On your marks, get set...

Ease
I'm just imagining lying beneath this tree on a gorgeous spring day and watching the birds soar with their wings spread wide. Eventually I'd be taken away as I'd begin to think about all the places these birds have been!

Pod
This piece is inspired by life, death, growth, and renewal. It's so simple, but that says so much!

I love Tricia's mixed media work as well. Again it's so layered with detail and full of character. Each piece is open to interpretation. The simple palette works great with complex detail in the imagery.

Look at that color POP! Such fun shots from Tiffany Mumford! I am obsessed with dark gray houses. And don't these yellow windows make this house look like it's smiling:-)

"A Musical Sculpture"

Design is my passion, but without music I couldn't survive! I want to share with you one of my favorite local bands that I've been obsessing over since last summer! If you know me, you've probably heard me rave about the band Warpaint. I have mad respect for these 3 beautiful independent female artists and that 1 bad ass male drummer. I've seen Warpaint probably 6 times and I stand in the front row, hips swaying, head tilting, jaw dropping, and just let them take me away. I can't really describe the sound and honestly I can't really compare them to anyone else, but this is when you know it's love...right?!

Here you go, this guy can! I love this description!

“This is some hip, sultry, stimulating stuff. Warpaint is making a musical sculpture with pinches of psychedelic, post-punk, and dreampop clay in a very non-blatant and interesting way.” ---Classical Geek Theatre

let those creative juices flow!

I think that's my hand:-)

I just read that they are now signed to Manimal Vinyl and will be re-realeasing their EP Exquisite Corpse on vinyl...how awesome is that! Their EP Exquisite Corpse is available here and it's amazing!! Also don't miss their upcoming show at the Hammer on July 16th. I'm super bummed I missed their show tonight at Amoeba, but I was there in spirit!
