Current Bathroom Remodel: Before + After

I don't share too many of my personal projects on this blog, but this one I couldn't pass up! We are just about finished up with the condo remodel on Wilshire Blvd. and I had to give you sneak peek of the master bathroom. I think it's coming together beautifully! The client wanted a calm clean sanctuary that opened up to the views of the city and he got just that!

The "Seventy" vanity from Idea Group in a matte laquer is perfection and the freestanding tub is perfect for soaking and taking in those city views. The niche above the tub is wrapped in Caesarstone and filled with light and just glows in the night.


The freestanding tub and waterfall spout create a very spa like feel. The flooring is a white Quartz porcelain tile and looks impeccable.

View from the tub. Now just imagine the city lights. This is a condo on the 16th floor.The perfect niche for all your bubble bath and spa needs. I'm ready to get in please!

The double pocket doors allow the bathroom to be completely open to the master bedroom.

And they can still be closed off for privacy.

Here are the before pictures! Can you even believe that the client initially wanted to keep the cabinets and maybe even the marble! Eeek!

Christine d'Ornano Interior

The London home of "cosmetic royalty" Christine d'Ornano as featured in this months Elle Decor is filled with inspiration from her parents Parisian home and minimalist elements of architect Alex Michaelis.
This living room is perfect to me! I love every detail...especially the pink walls and the modern sconces.

The 1970's abstract floral upholstered walls is definitely influenced by her family's Parisian home. I love the use of abstract floral walls against the geometric pattern floors in the master bedroom. I could move into her home today:-)

i29 Architects

My latest post over at Design Milk features the work of my favorite architects! Love this space!
This residence at the Singel, Amsterdam is yet another amazing project by i29 Interior Architects, one of my absolute favorite interior architecture firms. i29 is innovative in their approach, but they are able to keep their designs so simple by combining materials in such an awe inspiring way while maintaining an incredible sense of calmness. This design takes things one step further outside the box, or maybe I should say inside the walls. This space is made up of freestanding objects and interior volumes. Within the space you feel the openness, but the interior of the volumes feel very intimate. The kitchen and wardrobe are contained within one volume near the entrance. The burled walnut is so rich against the white epoxy floors and white walls. This space seriously takes my breath away!



I studied the design of this bathroom for about 10 minutes before I realized that the exterior walls are not glass that allows the connection between the indoors and outdoors, but that they are a living Plantwall that is actually inside the bathroom and acts as a backdrop for the entire interior. Design Milk: The Beat Boxed 10

In 2010 a few of my goals are to take more baths (rather than showers that is), meditate often, and see The Flaming Lips perform live! Every January I start looking forward to Coachella and the release of the much anticipated lineup. Well, my original article was written last week and since then the lineup was released and the Flaming Lips will not be playing:-( The lineup is insane, so I cannot complain! I can still lounge around in my Flaming Lips inspired bathroom and listen to their latest album Embryonic!

“To see or not to see, to be in a gentle and magical form. Transparency and volume dancing together intertwining in a unique and endless hug. Floating, sensing and dreaming.” This description of the Arturo Álvarez Flu Lamp perfectly captures the feeling one should sense in this bathroom. The psychedelic kaleidoscope tiles dance on the floors and onto the walls with water like essence. The glass tub fills with water and disappears into the ground and you feel as if you’re floating inside the room. The veins of the black marble shoot through the prisms and create the powerful, but soft energy of water carving through rock. The lighting floats dreamily above while the energy and ethereal movements of the space make you feel like it’s some kind of hypnotist! Get it?!

DJS, this insanely gorgeous retail store in Hong Kong, designed by Panorama International at first glance probably does not make you think…”Oh yeah, The Flaming Lips!” ... I feel like if you put inside this store and turned me in circles I probably wouldn’t be able to find my way out. I’d feel like I was floating in mid air, much like I’m imaging the way I’d feel if I was that jumbo ball floating over the crowd at a Flaming Lips. Read the entire aricle here.

Drooling Over New Zealand Architecture.

I have a super duper special place in my heart for New Zealand. It is one of the most beautiful places on Earth and I am just dreaming of the day I can return. When we were traveling in New Zealand I would always say, I just can't quite comprehend at this time how beautiful things are. Everyday I was seeing the most gorgeous and unique natural landscapes and environments that I'd ever seen before. My head was constantly whipping around, with jaw dropped, and all I could say was "oh my gosh, look over there! wow! wow! look over there! wow!" I am feeling the same way as I drool over the work of New Zealand based Fearon Hay Architects. The Sandy Bay Farmhouse makes my heart skip a beat. I would gladly stay here on my next holiday;-)

Just imagine the night sky filled with star light. Oh so gorgeous!

The countertop is stunning wish I knew what material it was. Such a gorgeous matte finish which makes me think it may be sandstone or concrete. Any ideas?

What a great connection with the outdoors. Just thinking this would be the perfect place for a wedding:-)

wow...that's all I need to say!

I can't help, but sharing with you another project by Fearon Hay Architects. The Mountain Retreat located in Central Otago blends in perfectly with the natural landscape and environment in the region without being too raw.

This home is completely hidden upon entry from the road. You must climb down the roof to enter into the front door. How cool is that!

This view takes my breathe away! And look at how stunning that fireplace and log holder are!

I love this combination of materials.

Check out that bathtub you know there is such a killer view!
I WILL return to New Zealand one day and for now I am going to continue to dream about staying in one of these stunning holiday homes on my return!

Jill Stuart's Dreamy Home!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was short, but super sweet! I actually had some time to relax on Sunday, get some cleaning done, spend some time at the beach, go rollerblading, go out on a beautiful date with my fiance, and still get some work done! It felt so good to clean up my apartment a bit and as much as I love my space I am dying to make some changes to it. As I was cleaning I came across this issue of Elle Decor featuring the home of of fashion designer Jill Stuart and started to daydream! I just love the crispness and freshness of this apartment with the use of bold artwork and sophisticated details. Her place has a soft feminine touch without being too cutesy or trendy! I love it!

It's Just Right!

I stumbled upon the work of New York based Sara Story Design and loved what I found! She did such an incredible job on this Gramercy Park Project. I love the boldness of colors and patterns and the clever use of space. We all know these New York apartments can be small, so you better use your space wisely, and this is exactly what Sara Story has done!
This kitchen is fabulous! Check out that patterned floor (which by the way is handpainted/airbrushed), the deep purple ceiling and those cabinets that are just the perfect shade of gray! I love the use of black in this space.

That chandelier is stunning! I think the partition wall is an amazing feature. The room still feels so bright and open while the wall breaks up the space. Do you think that bedroom is the old living room? Also check out that wallpaper...so fun! It also looks like the cabinets are built into the wall. Again such a clever solution.
That red is killer...and I mean it in the best way! What an adorable little bathroom. This kid must have a great view. What a fablulous use of space built in around and under the bed.

A Barcelona Beauty

How could you even possibly think of passing up such a beautiful historical apartment in Barcelona. Well when you have a baby on the way and there's a possibility of being evicted due to redevelopment you might question it! Well question it they did, but Cecilia Tham and Yoel Karaso of Habitan Architects fell in love with the original ornate molding and stunning tile work and they figured out how to make it work. The design of the kitchen and bathroom were created more furniture like and not fitted into any walls, so in case this upheaval happened, they would be able to take all their valuable elements with them. Such a genius idea!

I bet the acoustics in this place are crazy! Look at the height of those doors and that gorgeous ceiling...WOW!
A bathtub and sink combo how incredible is this!

Oh my goodness! I am obsessed with that tile! And those light filled windows with the blue shutters are incredible! I hope they never have to leave!

I love all these raw elements and I'm going to say it one last time...I'm obssessed with the tile:-)
